Over 1200 people took a trip back in time this past holiday weekend, focusing on a century ago when some of the most notorious criminals in America co-existed with one central Arkansas town. Taking us back to the 20's, 30's and 40's, Executive Director of the Gangster Museum of America in Hot Springs, Robert Raines gave us an inside look. Each room in the tour, mixed with Hot Springs history, tells a story of the days when gangsters ran the streets; or at least the space beneath them. "It was cool to find out they were actually here," said Tony Sandefur, visiting on vacation from Louisiana. And where better to have an exhibit showcasing those days than the Spa City. Raines explained, "This is the only place you could do something like this and not talk about what they did for a living." The museum continues to bring in new pieces all the time. Like porcelain pigeons given to Owen Madden by "Lucky" Luciano. "My favorite part in there was actually when they talked about Dillenger," Sandefur recommended. "It's awesome because I've always thought about what it would have been like to be back in those times."

"America's First Resort" attracts people to get away from the daily grind; typical of Hot Springs now and back then. "This was considered the loose buckle in the Bible Belt," Raines said. "They came here to pretty much have a party." And this time I can let someone else say it for me. As Raines puts it, "This only happened in Arkansas." Those days still live on within those rooms.
